I am an ordained Baptist preacher.  Wasn't always that, though. 
From 1967 to 1985, I was a true seeker.  Every major religion and some lessor known ones received my attention.  I actively practiced Buddhism for about 10 of those years, having studied with monks in Thailand for three years.
I had the opportunity to lecture Comparative Religions Classes in 1976 in North Carolina in Eastern Religions (complete with my own slides taken during my time in Asia).
In all of my studies thru the years I have found a common thread of purpose for all belief systems, including the North and South American Indians, the Aborigines, Eskimos, the Spiritist of Asia, and all the other ancient religions I have studied.  This same purpose threads through the more modern religions around the world, as well as, the the Estoric Practitioners of the East.  That purpose is very simply, “we're here; let's make the best of what we have (believe), and work for long life, family, and community.”
The reason I'm a Christian is simply, “I'd rather take my chances with a chance of Oneness with Divinity (in this life) and Immortality (in the life to come).”  And, if others think this is the easy way out, they're wrong.  It is just as demanding as my meditation, my exercise, my healthy habits (even if I still have some not-so-good ones), or any other practice one would want to undertake.  Besides, a never-ending cycle of birth and rebirth, not sure if the next will be better or worse, scares the 'hell' out of me!!
